Celebrating Children’s Hospitals Week

We celebrated #ChildrensHospitalsWeek by highlighting items that we’ve been able to purchase to help kids at James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital! We couldn’t provide these items without funds from CMN Hospitals!

Arctic Sun – Infants and children in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) may require whole body cooling at some point during their hospitalization due to a head or brain injury whether at birth or due to a trauma. The Arctic Sun system allows controlled rapid cooling of the patient and the ability to maintain a steady temperature until the time of rewarming.

FeNO NIOX VERO Asthma Management system – FeNO is a simple and safe method of measuring airway inflammation and other airway diseases in asthma patients. And it can be done in one minute. In children, there has been a 50% reduction in episodes of progressive increased shortness of breath, coughing, wheezing, or chest tightness with NIOX guided treatment.

GeneXpert Xpress System – It’s about the size of a microwave and provides accurate and reliable detection for flu, strep, and RSV in as soon as 20 minutes. This enables healthcare providers in the Children’s Emergency Department to quickly deliver targeted therapies. A single system can store 20,000+ test results.

Panda iRes Bedded Warmer – keeps the healthy baby healthy. It combines advanced technologies with innovative features to deliver state-of-the-art thermoregulation while promoting family-centered care. Panda Warmers are designed to provide direct heat to the infant and not the caregiver. Its compact size allows more room for the patient’s family to interact with the baby which promotes bonding.

Site Rite Halcyon Vein Finder- Obtaining reliable vascular access in small children is frequently made challenging by a number of factors including small veins and an excess of subcutaneous fat which make visualization and palpitation of veins difficult. Pediatric patients are often less cooperative, and the potential for psychological trauma, especially with repeated procedures is also a factor. Having the ability to use ultrasound guidance helps to reduce needle passes, needle redirects, and increases first stick success rates. The Site Rite Halcyon provides the ability to assess vascular, guide access, and confirm placement which eliminates the need for chest x-ray confirmations.

Stryker Nara Bassinet – used in the Special Care Nursery (SCN), a step down unit for babies who no longer need the critical care of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The Stryker Nara Bassinets features a firm mattress designed to ensure that we are following “Safe Sleep” guidelines, while also providing comfort for a sleeping infant. They are simple to clean and meet all infection control requirements established by our hospital which is especially important these days. Each of the 21 rooms in the SCN is private so that parents can practice and prepare to bring their child home. These bassinets are compact, easy to use and allow for a smooth transition home.
